Urban Spatial Structure Optimization Under The Influence Of Industrial Structure Adjustment

Under the circumstance of the expanding globalization, the wide spread ofknowledge-driven economy, and re-industrialization in the western countries, Chinamade its significant progress not only in economy, but also in its economic aggregate. Inthis background full of opportunities and challenges, the standard of industrial structurebecomes extremely important. As a result, control measures of the industrial structurefunction as a key of each city’s economy. Meanwhile, the industrial structure alsoaffects its physical layout, i.e. the urban space, precisely, the non-physical dynamicinteracted with its physical outcome in a very complicated way. Thus, this paper aims atperceiving and explaining the inner interaction between industrial structure and thespatial one, based on the combination of industrial structure and urban space. Also, thispaper argues the relationship is vital for the upper-grading of industries and a bettermanagement of valuable spatial sources.Starting with literature review of economic and industrial theories, consideringmajor impact from restructuring to urban spatial structure as the starting point. Thispaper analyzes and summarizes the optimization strategy of urban spatial structureunder the effects of industrial restructuring, and applys this onto the main case study ofChongqing. Catering to the set target, this paper is divided into six parts. Firstly, itintroduces and summarizes the research status combining the industrial structure andspatial one both nationally and internationally. Subsequently, the relevant researchpurpose, research significance, methods and framework are all raised. In the second part,some basic theoretical research are made to elaborately apply the theory of urbaneconomic and spatial analysis in the general rules of industrial structure and the spatialstructure evolution. Part3mainly talks about how the adjustment of industrial structureaffects the urban spatial structure and optimization strategies. Firstly, the relationship issummed up to help find out the industrial proportion, changing and division of labor areindeed what affects urban spatial structure. Later five aspects of spatial elements,including land use structure, urban density, urban layout, urban form, contact channelsare extracted to give suggestions to optimize urban structure in three detailed strategies.Section4is first about an evolvement study of the main city of Chongqing, explaininghow the adjustment of industrial structure influences the urban spatial structure. It is theindustrial changes which affect the spatial structure, leading to the city’s multi-center spatial structure. Part5is mainly about spatial optimization strategy of the main city ofChongqing under optimized industrial structure adjustment. After analyses of trends ofindustrial structural adjustment and the current situation of spatial structure, providingstrategies to optimize the spatial structure of Chongqing.
