The landing gear design is one of the most basic areas in the field of aircraft design. An optimaldesign is an important guarantee of the take-off and landing safety.In this paper, the landing gear of a certain type of near space vehicle is chosen as the designobject. According to the characteristics of the vehicle, an overall design of the landing gear is given,which is suitable for the selected model. The landing gears’ installation position is determined afterthe calculation of the whole load distribution and the restricted angles which needs to be satisfied. Onthe basis of the required strengths space, a reasonable extending-retracting mechanism is designed. Asuit of electric cylinder is worked out by using permanent magnet motor as the power source—thisdesign not only makes the landing gear retract normally, but also resolves the motive power problemwhen hydraulic source is not available. And last but not least, the absorber system of the landing gearis preliminarily designed and simulated.According to the above design, a3-D digital landing gear model of a certain type of near spacevehicle is built. Then the model is meshed by finite element software and the main and nose landinggear’s strength and rigidity is analyzed by applying landing gear’s load and boundary condition to themodel. Results show that the selected materials of components meet the design requirements.The main struts of the landing gears in this paper are oblique ones. Since they may deform andaffect the shock-absorber behavior when the vehicle drops, full flexible simulation analysis of landinggear is did based on the full rigidity landing gear drop shock performance simulation. The process isoperated in the software-ADAMS/Aircraft, and finally gets the absorber parameters that meets thedesign requirements.During the whole design of landing gear, we will encounter a variety of engineering problems. Inorder to solve them, we have to coordinate them with the aircraft itself. In this sense, designexperience is very crucial. In this paper, a relatively effective design scheme is engineered based on acertain type of aircraft landing gear, which has some reference and contribute to the overall design ofthe landing gear in the future.
