The stability of bank for the quay is one part of the slope stabilityengineering. As the foundation of the high pile structure connecting thesuperstructure and the ground, the piles together with the bank are bothof the key structure of the quay. Thus the check of shore connectingstructure stability is quite critical in the calculation of the quaystructure, especially in the high pile structure for its key roles in thesafety of the structure. In engineering practices, due to technicalreasons for personal experience or external factors, influence ofhorizontal displacement is often ignored by technicians.The theory of bank design for the quay is first introduced in the paper,including the theory of quay bank stability and pile foundation, and thenthe results of previous studies are analyzed. Second, the relevanttheoretical analysis and calculation method of the passive pile arereviewed. Combining with the engineering practices, the stabilitychecking of shore connecting structure in quay in the presence of largerand local load condition is carried out, using the professional softwareobserving with the relevant technical specifications, and the recommendedSlice Method in the standard. By considering the side friction effect andrectifying the output of the resistance factor, the feasibility of themethod is verified and can be used for further reference in similarengineering.The finite element software MIDAS is used in the analysis ofdisplacement of the quay, and three different conditions of horizontaldisplacement are analyzed. And then the derived horizontal displacementare imposed on piles, and the pile stress is calculated using the principleof pile walls. The results revealed that the loads value of the bank isnot proportional with the bending moment and the shear stress, and itsincreasing or decreasing shall not be judged by relative theoretic values. And it can also be concluded that the pile foundations match with therequirements. At the same time, reduction method for calculation of thequay with finite element fracture is used to get reduction coefficient.Based on the reduction coefficient, calculation of horizontaldisplacement of slope of the quay under different working conditions iscarried out. Then, the horizontal displacement is applied to the quaypiles, and the calculation of the force analysis of pile foundation ismade. By applying the stress reaction to the quay, the horizontaldisplacement under a variety of different conditions is calculated. Bycomparing horizontal displacement of pile foundation before and after thestress, it can be concluded that the presence of pile foundationscontributes to the sliding resistance of the bank. However, its effectis too small to be count, while still worth considering as a safetytolerance. The analysis method using the horizontal displacement for theforces between the pile and soil is thus verified to be effective and couldbe used for future reference in similar projects.
