Nowadays, with the development of the economy, the power system advances faster andfaster. But at present the construction of China’s electric power system is still lagging behind,many problems are still existing. Reactive power optimization of power system is one of themost concerned problem. It has a very important meaning for the system security and theeconomy. For this reason, more and more electricity workers began to study how to fully relyon reactive power to reduce network losses and improve the system economy on the premiseof meeting electricity demand and ensuring reliability and then ultimately achieve thepurpose of improving power quality.Firstly, in-depth study of reactive power optimization of background knowledge andGAMS (General Algebraic Modeling System), namely general mathematical model of thesystem software. In this section of reactive power optimization’s background, we not onlyhave studied reactive power consumption equipment and compensation devices, but alsosimply introduced two reactive control methods. We also introduce some commonly usedcontrol model of reactive power optimization. In this section of GAMS software, weintroduced the development background、basic features、models and structures as well asclassification of models、commonly used solver of GAMS and so on. We designed the powersystem reactive power optimization framework based on GAMS. End up with a GAMSmodel which is in8-node to demonstrate the GAMS’s programming methods and processesintuitively.Secondly, we established a mathematical model of continuous reactive poweroptimization, including the objective function, equality and inequality constraints. Conductresearch and analysis which in the GAMS framework on the Ward&Hale6and IEEE14systems. Determined the state variables and control variables and established a mathematicalmode which can be described as nonlinear programming problem. The minimum power lossof the system as the objective function, the electricity power balance of the system as theequality constraints, the capacitor compensation capacity and node voltage as inequalityconstraints, the research result tell us that through reactive power optimization, the active power loss reduce significantly. That means we can achieve optimal results by using thismethod. Then, we examined the three basic ways of the regional voltage and reactive powercontrol and established a GAMS-based mathematical model about regional voltage andreactive power control in the basis of continuous reactive power optimization. By usingGAMS framework on IEEE14system study, shows that it can improve the overall economicefficiency.Finally, the basic method of secondary development with JAVA carried GAMS,introduces the coding process and usage. Finally, a practical example to verify the GAMSAPI introduced in Eclipse, using GAMS underlying algorithm, the GAMS secondarydevelopment is successful. By GAMS secondary development and InterPSS relative access,you can fully demonstrate the great potential utility-based power system optimization GAMSDevelopment program.
