With the rapid development of large-scale highway bridge construction, problems causedby the bridge-type selection gradually highlights. However, in our country, basic research ofthe bridge-type selection is lack of systematic theoretical results to be utilized to guide thebridge engineering practice at present time. Therefore, the bridge-type selection study is ofvital necessity. This paper conducts an in-depth, systematical study on the bridge-typeselection issue based on adaptability. The main contributions of this paper are as follows:The affecting factors on the bridge-type selection are analyzed from three dimensions:the natural influencing factors, the social influencing factors and the bridge influencingfactors.The technical processes of bridge type alternatives identification are established. Acombination of Assumptions methods and Screening methods is proposed to determine thebridge type alternatives. And on this basis, screening principles and key parameters of variousstages are given.A new concept of bridge-type selection based on bridge adaptability is put forward. Byfurther exploring the connotation and denotation of "adaptation". this dissertation brings outthe reasonable definition of "Bridge Type Adaptability", analyzes the six core elements whichare safety, applicability, economy, durability, beauty and environmental protection, andestablishes the index evaluation system and the underlying index evaluation criteria.Combined with Analytic Hierarchy Process entropy method and expert survey results,the weight distribution of all levels of the bridge type adaptability index evaluation system,the principles and the methods to adjust the weights are provided. For the decision problem, asingle-decision-maker model and a group-decision-makers model are put forward. A systemicdecision-making and a rapid decision-making methods are raised.An practical engineering case is studied by applying the bridge-type adaptive selectionmodel, methods and standards. Through the case, the theory of this paper is verified.The conclusions in this dissertation provide a theoretical and technical basis for thehighway bridge selection, which has a great practical significance to the promotion of normalization and standardization in highway bridge-type selection.
