The greatest impact on vehicles traveling in the fog is low visibility, and the driver’svisual rangebecomes shorter, which makes it difficult to predict the road and the vehicleconditionahead. What’s more, the pavement becomes slippery because of the fog, in whichcircumstance the braking performance of vehicles becomes poor, easily occurring sideslippery. It’s prone to large chain rear-end traffic accidents in view of the big possibility of acollision between synthetic running vehicles is big on highway, which has the characteristicsof heavy traffic, fast speed, separated driving and so on. So foggy weather has become one ofthe main incentives for the accident in freeway traffic.Smoke forecasting system or somesafety induction facilities on the highwayshould be installed to ensure the safety of the vehicleon the highway in low visibility because of the fog.This article proposed a new improved schemeon the basis of the existing technologiesand implementing programs, which firstlyapplied the vehicle detection technology based onmagnetoresistivesensor in intelligent traffic guidance system in the fog area. This vehicledetection technology mentioned above is based on detecting the Earth’s magnetic anomalycaused by the vehicle passing by the magnetoresistive sensor, resulting in the vehicle’s statethe speed of the vehicles passing by, as well as traffic and other traffic conditions. In aword,the system can achieve the function of real-time monitoring on the conditions of thevehicles on theroad, providing on-site information support for the intelligent traffic guidancesystem.The design of the vehicle detection system in this paper consists of two parts: the sensornode and the signal processing center. The sensor nodeembedded in the center of the detectedlane, collects the changing information of the magnetic in its detection range by theHoneywell HMC1052axis magnetic field sensor, and the vehicle state information is obtainedafter series data processing by the STM32F103microcontrollerand is sent to the signalprocessing host on the roadside by the wireless transceiver NRF905.After receiving thecorrect data, the signal processing host extracts useful information, and calculates theparameters of speed, traffic, etc, then it makes comparison with the control strategies of the control center,choosinga right guidance strategy to induce the traffic by some devices such asfog lamps.This design has been verified bysimulation experiments and field tests, and the resultsshow that the designed system can detect the traffic information of the vehicles on roadreliably and accurately, and can meet the function requirement of the intelligent trafficguidancesystem with suitable foglight control strategies.Besides,the detection system issusceptible for the ambient interference with the advantages of small size, easy installationand maintenance, low cost and so on. Clearly, the system designed in this paper has high usevalue and broad application space.
