With the rapid development of the economic construction in China, in the pursuit of therational utility of buildings, improvement of the existing buildings has been on the rise inrecent years. Steel-bonded reinforcement technique, as a traditional strengthening method, iswidely used by the designers for its low cost, high efficiency, high strength and simpleconstruction, etc. This paper conducted a case study of a renovation project of anunderground parking lot, its concrete beams with opened shear-wall were reinforced byadopting the steel-bonded reinforcement method. Besides, this paper discussed the formulasfor the calculation of the bearing capacity and stiffness of the beams strengthened by bondsteel, analyzed their flexure mechanical properties, introduced the constitutive model ofconcrete members and reinforcing materials in detail, described the specific methods for theestablishment and analysis of finite element models, with the aid of the finite elementsoftware ABAQUS, built finite element models for concrete shear wall reinforcement beamswith openings after, simulated the process of the reinforcement construction by using theelement birth and death technology, and numerically simulated the whole flexural process ofthe reinforced concrete beams.Analysis of the calculation results of the finite element models can be concluded that thebearing capacity and stiffness of the reinforced concrete beams are greatly improved afterreinforcement. After the detailed analysis of their flexural properties, a conclusion is madethat the flexural process can be divided into three stages: elastic stage, yield stage andultimate destruction stage from steel plate strengthening. The concrete cracks and concretesteel stresses reaching yield are used to mark the three stages. The preliminary discussion andanalysis of the steel plate stress distribution law demonstrate the steel plate stress states atthree different stages. The finite element models, based on life and death function, areestablished respectively, besides, the impact of the different reinforcement orders ofreinforced concrete beams is discussed. The construction methods, adopted in this project, play a considerable role in unloading, having reduced the initial stress on the reinforcementbeams and greatly improved the utilization of steel plates, which might provide solid theoretical basis for similar construction projects in the future.
