Identification Of Key Factors Influencing Urban Traffic Structure And Intervention Study

As the continuous increasing of city size and urban population, problems of trafficsystem are getting severe. Guaranteeing a proper urban traffic structure which reflects theco-ordination of traffic supply and demand is one of the most significant strategies in thedevelopment of a city. Based on crosswise and time series analysis of some major citiesin China, this paper analyzed the key factors influencing urban traffic structure andinterventions.This paper clarified the connotation of urban traffic structure, studied the calculationof traffic structure and showed the estimation indicators when there is no adequate surveydata. The feature of proper urban traffic structure is discussed based on energy andenvironment, economic development and travel demand respectively. Factor analysis isused to find the key factors like disposable income per capital.Based on the data of thirty major cities in China and the experience of metropoliseslike Los Angeles, further study of the factors chosen by factor-analysis is conducted. Theresult shows that income and constraint policies have significant impacts on car use.Investment on public transportation facilities and population density of downtown are keyfactors influencing the use of public transportation system. The formation of polycentriccity structure increases travel distance.With the study of connotation of proper urban traffic structure, interventions aresuggested based on the analysis of key factors.
