| Characterized by its long history and with thousands of years development, thearchitectural culture in our country has become an accumulation of treasure. Xingtai, acity in the south of Hebei Province, has a history of3000years. Most of the existingtraditional residential buildings in Xingtai were built in the late Qing Dynasty and theearly time of Republic of China and in a relatively good preservation state. As a product ofmulti-cultural society, not only does the traditional residential buildings in Xingtai possesthe general features of these in Northern China,but also the characteristics of Shanximansions and Beijing courtyards. By studying on the architectural decoration for thetraditional residential buildings in this region, we can better inherit and carry forward thefine traditional architectural culture in this region. Up to now, there is still a shortage ofrelative professional literatures. Therefore, this paper enriches the content of this academicfield. In the mean time, it attaches great importance to this study due to the fact that thetraditional residential buildings in this region are facing serious threats to their existenceby a variety of factors.This paper studies the decoration culture of traditional residential buildings in Xingtaiand researches and analyzes the architectural culture of traditional residences in Xingtaifrom various aspects. Scientific methods, such as field research, literature searching, andcomparison method will be employed in this paper. This study focuses on the decorationtypes and artistic forms of traditional residential buildings in Xingtai. This paperresearches and illustrates the traditional carving and engraving decoration and artisticpatterns in this region. On one hand, the study in this paper summarize and transmittraditional architectural culture, on the other hand, it is theoretically and practicallysignificant to the protection, repair, and development of traditional residential buildings. |
