Vehicle ride comfort is an important assessment criterion of vehicle performance, well-designed parameters of suspension system, such as spring rates and damping rates, play a significant role in assuring vehicle ride comfort. Since Leaf spring, one type of springs which are widely used in heavy vehicles, can greatly determinate the stiffness and damping factor of a suspension system; and Hydraulically Interconnected Suspension (HIS) system is able to independently adjust the spring rates or damping rates for each vibration mode, it is meaningful to do researches of HIS system and leaf springs.The source of this research is from the cooperation between Hunan University and an Industry. According to the harsh vibration response, poor ride comfort and the simple work circumstance of the pickup truck, this paper used the method of whole-vehicle parameter identification, building of vibratory model, optimization of suspension system and design of Hydraulically Interconnected Suspension system for a ride comfort increasing purpose.The mainly contents of this paper are listed as follows:1. In this paper, a simple and accurate method of modal parameter identification was introduced. By using this method after drop test, the modal parameters of the pickup truck were obtained. After that, the physic parameters of this vehicle were obtained through calculation.2. Based on the need of ride-comfort-optimization for a pickup truck, the7degree of freedom (7-DOF) whole vehicle vibratory model was built up.3. The vibration response during experiments and simulation was analyzed and the reasons of poor ride comfort were obtained, also a proper purpose for optimization was determined.4. Optimized the parameters of original suspension system and designed the Hydraulically Interconnected Suspension system for the purpose of optimization.5. In order to judge the effect of this optimization impersonally, a road test was arranged on the pickup truck, the comparison between the original truck and the optimized truck was made.After the comparison, the positive effect of installing the Hydraulically Interconnected Suspension system can be proved.
