Nowadays, with the rapid economic development, traditional houses’internal functions have been difficult to meet the needs of modern material culture.It is depended on the protection and renewal of residence to weigh against the specific circumstances. This thesis started from Jingmai Dazhai traditional houses protection and renewal of traditional residential project, discussed the method of traditional house protection and renewal, combined theory and practice and put forward specific embodiments.Firstly, the thesis compared Jingmai with other areas of the Dai traditional houses to study the basic morphological characteristics of Jingmai’s construction methods and Jingmai Dai residential, building materials and architectural form of evolution. Secondly, summarized the status of Jingmai traditional houses, and put forward the existing problems.Thirdly, the thesis analysised the traditional houses’value, put forward the update protection strategy.As for the present problems, the writer put forward restructure the residential space and took some thematic research to enhance the quality of residential living with the specific cases to illustrate it.Finally, summary the project practice and afford the practice method of protection and the way of renewal the traditional residential building.
