Conservation and renewal are two major pattern of historic districts and traditional blocksin cultural cities. Traditional blocks are in the course of economy revolution and beinghighly urbanized with insuperable contradictions. Therefore, studies are very important intheory and practice. This paper take Thonghai tradition block as an example, guided byinternational and homeland theory research by the fact that large amounts of inductionsumming up, carrying out the exploration, comparision research and so on.The main body of this paper include five chapters:Chapter 1 (the introduction)Giving studies background, development, purpose andsignificance etc., establishing studying contents and methods.Chapter 2 Introducing and analysing current situation. Summing up the historical andcultural city characteristic in Tonghai and extant problem of old city.Chapter 3 Giving protectional and developmental research about tradition blocks.Summing up setting forth about Tonghai traditional block.Chapter 4 Giving Modes of conservation and renewal studies. Introducing practice andmethods, protecting and developing about tradition blocks, introducing several exploitationpattern about several small touring towns of Yunnan, and analysing the pattern studyingproperness protecting and developing comparatively.Chapter 5 Practicing in Tonghai traditional block. The pattern are the main body of thethesis, the diversity makes clear that the Tonghai tradition block requires the contentprotecting, studying about tradition protects methods, putting into effect to be developed byanalytical detailed comparison in Tonghai, and being guided by the dyadic renewal patternadvancing gradually practice: planning and designing in Wenxianli area.
