With the development of society and economy, electric power has become a pillar industry of our country, and scholars’ research on the electric power industry also gradually in-depth. Transmission line is an important part of power system, plays a role of transmission and distribution of electric energy, the safe and stable operation of power grid is the guarantee of rapid economic development. Ningxia transmission line has many points, long line, wide area, and bad electrical equipment operating conditions, construction of on-line monitoring system is the necessity of the safety of power grid. Therefore, the system for solving the current problems has very important significance.The paper studies the online monitoring system of transmission line, analyzes and compares key technology and the communication mode, combines with the actual operation condition of Ningxia electric grid, analyzes the operation of the monitoring system, clears the necessity of Ningxia on-line monitoring system, and focus on designing the system’s overall architecture, layered architecture andbackground software architecture. Our system views online monitoring as the core, achieves accurate, real-time data acquisition function for all kinds of electrical equipment and the surrounding environment, make a comprehensive analysis timely to the detected data, to judge the running state of electric equipment, to takes some measures about the problems of and potential threat to ensure the safe and stable operation of power grid. Then we analyze the communication network demand of our system, make full use of Ningxia power communication backbone network which has constructed. Backbone network is based on SDH/MSTP technology multiple business transmission platform, support transparent transmission of variety of the business. In terms of access network, we use the EPON technology in most place, parts adopt GPRS/CDMA/3G public access, and230MHZ as backup. Finally we introduce the hardware and software implementation of the system. This system accords with national development direction and the requirement of the smart grid, to be advanced and practical. Our system is in a leading position comparing with the similar systems, the application prospect is very broad.
