Power steering gear is the key component of vehicle steering system, and performances of a vehicle steering system depend on the characteristics of power steering gear. To investigate the influence of structure parameters of the recirculating-ball hydraulic power steering gear on vehicle handling and stability performance and optimize the structure parameters, first of all, based on a real recirculating-ball hydraulic power steering gear assembled in low speed truck, a Modelica-based modeling approach was proposed to establish a static characteristics model of the steering gear in the simulation platform of Dymola, and this model was verified through characteristics test of steering gear, then the structure parameters of major influence to the characteristics of steering gear were obtained by model simulation.In addition, a hydraulic power steering system model was established and a vehicle dynamics model was constructed based on Modelica. The vehicle dynamics model was validated through pylon course slalom test and steering portability experiment.Further more, in order to analysis the influence of steering gear structure parameters on vehicle handling and stability, the cloosed-loop evaluation system of vehicle handing and stability was proposed, at the same time, the structure parameters range of variation that could be benefit to vehicle handing and stability was summarized by vehicle dynamics model simulation analysis.At last, within the structure parameters rang of variation, under the guide of the orthogonal test, one optimum parameter group was obtained according to the simulation analysis of pylon course slalom test and steering portability experiment. Achieving the objective of power steering gear structure parameters optimized analysis.
