ABSTRACT:With the rapid development of railway transportation, it has becoming more important to keep safe in train running in recent years. The wheel set is a key component of railway vehicles, and the quality of the wheel set has direct relation with the safety of rail transportation. At present, the inspection of wheel set is mainly by manual work, however, there are many drawbacks. For instance, through artificial way, wheel set can not be detected in time and the turnaround time of train will be wasted, in addition, the efficiency is very low. If the geometric parameters of wheel set can not be detected in time accurately, the security of trains would be threatened seriously. Thus, it is extremely urgent to develop a dynamic on-line measurement system.Based on analysis and comparison of present measuring principles and technologies, a dynamic on-line measurement system which can measure some key parameters is proposed. This system can measure wheel diameter, flange thickness, rim width and wheel back distance on line using laser displacement sensors and eddy current sensors. The system has simple structure, convenient installation and low cost. This system uses laser displacement sensors and eddy current sensors to measure wheel diameter and it uses laser displacement sensors to measure flange thickness, rim width and wheel back distance. This paper optimizes the design of structural parameters which influence the result, analyses the error of measuring system,obtains the error expression and presents calibration method which can complete calibration of structural parameters We choose appropriate sensors, design protection equipment of sensors and have completed the field experiment. The result is up to the requirement of railway industry and the reliability of the measurement system is verified by the field experiment.
