With the birth and development of network, China going to the world,and the world focusing on China, the establishment and exchange ofsino-foreign culture have reached an unprecedented level. Interculturalcommunication activities have become the marked characteristic of our age.Intercultural communication means people from different culturecommunicate with each other. And then, the importance of interculturalcommunicative competence is the premise of intercultural communicationgoing smoothly. As far as Chinese English learners are concerned, the finallevel of the ability of communication also depends on the understanding ofthe English language and culture. Under the background of Chinese culture,intercultural communication ability should be one of the main goals ofEnglish teaching. However, it is only at the level of knowledge education forthe cultivation of intercultural communication competence and culturalteaching. It is required that much more cultural information should be inputin English teaching. Teachers should teach English language with cultureteaching. Teachers should ask students to find and compare the differencesof culture. Therefore, the conclusion as follows: the more the culture of thetarget language is mastered in English learning, the more conductive to thestudents grasps the English language skills, and the more interculturalcommunicative competence is raised.This investigation is finished according to the current situation ofEnglish teaching in our college. This paper mainly investigates the currentsituation of cultural teaching, also investigates teachers’ and students’awareness on the importance of learning intercultural communicationknowledge in English teaching in Inner Mongolia Mechanical and Electronics Vocational College. After investigation the current situation ofinter-cultural communication education, the author finds the problems inEnglish cultural teaching. The shortage of intercultural communicativecompetence is the present situation. Therefore, the author finds somereasonable approaches to solve the problems and improves the currentsituation.The dissertation is divided into five parts.Chapter One mainly elaborates the backgrounds, the significance, thecause and the structure of investigation. This part explores the relationshipbetween language and culture, gives a brief account of the current state ofcultural teaching and the existing problems of English teaching in ourcollege through investigation.Chapter Two, the development and the present situation of culturalteaching at home and abroad is reviewed. It is dissected from the origin, thedevelopment, the status, the definition of culture, the importance of culturallearning, culture and language, culture and communication, culture andteaching, the relevant research results, the factors of influence on thecultural teaching, the principles of English cultural teaching and theapproaches of cultural introduction and so on.Chapter Three mainly explains the investigation process. It includesthe purpose, the problems, the subjects, methods, the process of datacollection and the results.Chapter Four makes a further analysis of the data of questionnairesand the results of interviews. Meanwhile, it analyzes the problems existingin the English teaching of our college. The last one is the conclusion of this investigation. It is stressed theimportance of cultural teaching once again. Cultural learning isindispensable. And it shows the limitation of investigation and gives somesuggestion. This part includes the further investigation questions.In a word, cultural teaching should be purposeful, step by step, theright amount of culture teaching in the right way in English teaching. Itmakes learners feel different culture during language learning, and raiselearners’ interest in English learning. Thus, people can communicateflexibly in the intercultural communication.
