Rapid increase of container throughput and wide use of automatic container loading,unloading and handling facilities, make container terminal even more complicated onscheduling and also gain lower efficiency in management. Automatic Guided Vehicle(AGV), as a kind of horizontal transport system, which faces some problems suchaslongtime operating without goods andlower rate with container cargoes, has becomethe hot topic in the study of container terminal operation. How to improve theoperational efficiency of container terminal by reasonable scheduling AGV has alwaysbeen a crucial problem to solve.Using AGV scheduling in container terminal as the research object, this paper firstanalyzes the background of the research and reviews related research status. Problemswhich horizontal transport system in container terminal faces are analyzed. Methods ofmathematical modeling and simulation are adopted to study AGV scheduling.This paperfirst describes the arrangement and handling machinery of the containerterminal, and analyzes the impact of handling machinery on AGV scheduling. Followedby analysis of the composition and characteristics of the transport system, AGVscheduling system is analyzed in terms of AGV scheduling theory, scheduling principle,affecting factors.And then scheduling model based on "line" and scheduling modelbased on "surface" are studied and their advantages and disadvantages are given, on thebasis of which mathematical model is established on the basis of shortest invalidoperation time.At last, the simulation experiments are carried out based on Netlogosimulation platform. The simulation results of the scheduling model based on "line" andthe scheduling model based on "surface"validate the advantage of the later. Furthermore,the rationality of scheduling model based on "surface" is verified throughanothersimulation.Onthebasisof simulation above,applicationofthesimulationexperiment isarranged.Differentparametersareusedtocompareandanalyzetherates ofwaiting underdifferent environmentwhichcanconclude the best ratio of parametersandprovidedecisionsupportfortheactualschedulingwork.Inthispaper,thesimulationbasedonNetlogoprovidesafeasibleresearchmethodforAGVschedulingandverifiesthesuperiorityoftheschedulingmodelbasedon"surface".Furthermore,theapplicationofsimulationexperimentcanprovidereferencetotheactualschedulingworkin containerterminaltoacertainextent.
