The tailings dam plays an important part on the safetyproduction of the mine, at the same time, it is a large source of danger.Most tailings dam is located on special space with high potential energy.Once the accident happens, it will pollute the surrounding environmentand cause great financial losses, furthermore, it will threaten downstreampeople’s life safety. In this way, the stability of tailings dam must causethe attention of us all.In this paper, the stability of the FengShuigou tailings dam will beinvestigated by the way of numerical simulation, the results are asfollows:(1) Respectively on the basic of the limit equilibrium theory and thenumerical theory, the anti-sliding stability coefficient and the potentialslip surface’s position are got by Geo-slope and FLAC3D. After that, weCompare and analyze the results got by the two soft-wares.(2) Using FLAC3D, the unit stress level of the dam is calculated, theconstruction process of layered filling is simulated and the results ofconsolidation settlement are obtained. From the results, we can find thatthe stability of the dam unit is satisfying and the simulation results areconsistent with theory.(3) In the aspect of dynamic stability, the FLAC3Dis also used. The displacement, residual deformation and liquefy area are acquired.Through analyzing the results, the dynamic stability of the tailings damcan be assured.
