As one of the three basic projects of mine, the tailings reservoir plays an important role in the production of mining. The stability of tailings dam is a guarantee for the safe operation of tailings reservoir. Tailings dams are mainly constructed by the tailings sand, usually finer particles, poor gradation, low cohesion, and high water content, which is not conducive to the stability of the tailings dam. The stability analysis of the tailing dam is helpful to the evaluation of the working state of the tailings reservoir, and the corresponding measures are adopted to avoid the occurrence of safety accidents. In this paper, the stability of tailings dam is analyzed by means of numerical calculation method, including the static and dynamic analysis, and the factors affecting the stability of the dam and the corresponding treatment measures are discussed, the research results are as follows:(1)Using MIDAS/GTS software, a 3D finite element model is established. The phreatic line is obtained through seepage analysis. Using the finite element strength reduction method, the static stability analysis of the tailings dam is carried out, including the calculation of the safety factor of the tailings dam, and the determination of the changing of displacement and stress under the consolidation of tailings dam. The influence factors of the phreatic line on the stability of the tailings dam are diccussed.(2)Based on the analysis of static stability, the effect of seismic wave characteristics and seismic wave on the tailings dam is analyzed by means of displacement time history analysis and acceleration time history analysis. The acceleration amplification coefficient of different position nodes is obtained. By drawing the displacement and acceleration fitting curve of the monitoring points in the tailings dam, the sensitivity of the tailings dam to the earthquake intensity is determined, and then the change law of tailings dam in different earthquake intensity is obtained.(3)Based on the above analysis, the factors that influence the stability of the tailings dam, including line infiltration, drainage system and production management, are discussed, and treatment measures to strengthen the tailing dam stability are proposed.
