Deep/shallow pockets hybrid bearing is the combination of the advantages ofhydrostatic bearing and hybrid bearing. It has the advantages such as high precision,good stability and long service life, and is widely used in precision machining tool,steam turbine, aerospace and other fields. In the past, most of scholars at home andabroad studies the static and dynamic characteristics of sliding bearing with finitedifference method and finite element method. This approach ignores the influence ofoil film of curvature, inertia item, radial fluid field and other factors on the bearingsperformance. With the development of computational fluid dynamics and computertechnology, the finite element method based on software of computational fluiddynamics has been widely used, which is easy to solve the complex regional issues.The deep/shallow pockets hybrid bearing is the research object in this paper. Athree-dimensional model was established between bearing and shaft neck of oil filmand meshed by GAMBIT software. And Reynolds UDF program controllingboundary condition and UDF program controlling mesh moving are also writtenbased on the use of GAMBIT software. Numerical calculation of deep/shallowpockets hybrid bearing is carried out by using FLUENT software. The temperaturefield, temperature rising, pressure field, carrying capacity and other parameters of oilfilm under different working conditions are obtained, the changes with the rotationalspeed, eccentricity of the rule of these parameters are analyzed. Established the deepcavity hybrid bearings test rig on the basis of theoretical calculation. Then the oil filmpressure and temperature is measured and make a comparison between thecomputational results by the use of FLUENT software, the FLUENT results areverified by the experimental data. The followings are the main research contents inthis paper:(1)The3D model of shaft and bearing oil film is established by GAMBIT software,and the grid division is made by a hybrid grid technique. Reynolds boundaryconditions is incorporated into FLUENT by using the predefined macros to write modifying oil film pressure of the UDF program, The iteration computing of attitudeangle is controlled by using the predefined macros to write control grid mobile. of theUDF program(2) Establish the governing equations and boundary conditions of deep/shallowpockets hybrid bearing. Make numerical calculation process of deep/shallow pocketshybrid bearing, analyses the results, and make the comparison between the calculatedresults of FLUENT and the reference.(3) Establish the deep/shallow pockets hybrid bearing test rig to measure thepressure and temperature of the oil film. The calculation results of FLUENT areverified with the experiment results.
