With the development of society and the continuous improvement ofpeople’s living standards,the antiquated manual meter reading system can nolonger meet the needs of modern people’s life,thus the intelligent meter readingsystem came into being. The remote meter reading system is a new type of theintelligent meter reading system,especially its prominent function. And it notonly improves the efficiency but also enhance the accuracy of the meter readingsystem. The remote meter reading system is a new management system with theuse of computer technology and communication networks which help the systemto achieve data management.The meter reading device in the remote meter reading system is one of thecore parts of the meter reading system. And its main functions include:datamanagement, communication management, time management, displaymanagement etc. First of all,the article describes we can use the approaches ofthe integrated circuit to design the meter circuit. We eventually put forward to useFPGA to make the ASIC design come true. Then according to data management,communication management, time management,display management and otherfunctions which are requested, we can use the Verilog HDL language to describethe hardware circuit of the meter reader. In the design process of meter readingcircuit, uses the modular programming ideas,double integral ADC based onFPGA, is used to design A/D system circuit module, counting system circuitmodule, memory system circuit module,display system, communication systemcircuit module circuit module and the period setting circuit module. Thesimulation results show that, the design of remote meter reading system toachieve the basic functions of meter reading circuit, analog signal into digital signal, and then counting, storing, displaying the power consumption, accordingto the need, time interval control power consumption. Some system functionsneeded for further optimization and improvement. It makes a beneficialexploration for the development of the remote meter reading system.
