Large-span spatial structure is often used in the stadiums, swimming pools, conference centers and other large public buildings. It is exquisite and many of such important buildings have become new landmarks in the city. The stress state of a large span spatial structure is usually complex. The environmental conditions around a structure is also mutable. Therefore the probability of damage and destroying is large, especially in the construction stage. In order to understand the stress state of a large-span spatial structure, many researchers installed sensors or sensor network in the structures in recent years. The real-time online monitoring for these structures can be formed and their real stress state can be known much better. In this study, stress and strain were monitored during construction unloading of steel roof of the Harbin Grand Theater. The main contents of this thesis are briefly summarized as follows:(1) Four plans for monitoring of construction unloading of steel roof of Harbin Grand Theatre were proposed. The finite element model of the steel roof was built by using the finite element analysis software Midas. The unloading process of the four plans were analyzed and compared each other. Then the best construction unloading plan was chosen.(2) Unloading process of the steel roof of the Harbin Grand Theatre was monitored. Variation of stresses of many poles was obtained. The monitored stresses were then compared with the numerical analyzed ones. Although the simulated stresses is a little different from the actual monitored ones, the monitored stresses is within the scope of the design code. The monitored results provide reference for the unloading of similar structures in the future.(3) The monitoring and simulation were also conducted for the process of roof plate construction of the structure. Both the monitoring and simulation results showed that the stress of the critical bars increased with the adding of the roof panels. A little difference between the monitored and simulated stresses were observed because of the influence of the temperature and construction loads. The stresses of the critical bars tended to be stable with the adding of all roof panels. The steel roof of the Harbin Grand Theatre is in normal working condition.
