Along with the rapid development of China’s economy, as well as the urgent demand of construction of underground space engineering and the improvement of the science and technology level, the basic infrastructure project construction is growing with each passing day. Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) has been widely used in the field of underground engineering construction, such as railway engineering, municipal pipelines, irrigation and the west-east natural gas transmission project. The domestic demand for TBM mainly relies on import. Thus, the localization of the TBM, especially the localization of the cutters of TBM has become more and more important. As the main tunneling tool of TBM, the rock-breaking efficiency and the working time of the disc cutter relates directly to the process and costs of projects.Based on the above background, in this paper, the distribution and the change rules of temperature field and thermal stress field on disc cutters were studied by finite element simulation and experimental research. The working time and the lubrication state of bearings which was mounted on disc cutter have also been analyzed. All this studies will provide more accurate theory for cutter selection and design of maintenance program. The main research content and result are as follows,(1) This article investigated abrasive wear mechanism of disc cutters, the friction coefficient between disc cutter and sandstone, marble, granite.(2) Based on the contact force model and the movement law of disc cutter, the temperature field model was established with the consideration of structural parameters, tunneling parameters and geologic parameter, which reveals the relationship between disc cutter temperature and parameters.(3) The finite element model of disc cutter temperature field while tunneling was established by simplification of resultant force in actual condition. In this way, the distribution and the change rules of temperature field and thermal stress field on disc cutters were obtained. And parameters and rock type influences to the temperature of disc cutter were also analyzed though statistics methods. (4) The disc cutter temperature field acceleration test and rotation cutting test were conducted by disc butter linear cutting test table and TBM rotating testing table, to verified the correctness of the temperature field model and the simulation results.
