With the social development and Era progress, the MAN reconstruction has alsobeen implemented.The power cable has also been widely used in the MANreconstruction process. Although the power cable has more incomparable advantagesthan the overhead power line supply, the cable fault location is more difficult than theoverhead line fault location, which means we need to find an effective method of thecable fault location for timely troubleshooting to restore power. In this paper we decideto adopt the synchronous method of the magnetic and sound through examining a largeamount of literatures, for it being an effective way to pinpoint currently. This methoduses the time difference of receiving the magnetic and sound signals to locate theposition of the failure point. First,we use the high-voltage pulse generator to make thecable fault point discharge,which will has a " flap" sound and electromagnetic radiation,but the time to reach the detector is different due to the different propagation velocity ofthese two signals. Since the propagation speed of the electromagnetic signals is close tothe speed of light,the time of reaching the detector can be ignored.Secondly,we make thetime point of receiving the electromagnetic signal as a start timing, when the soundsignal reaches the detector,we stop timing and make this time difference as the audiosignal propagation time, according to the distance formula L=1/2(T*V) to locate thefault point.In this paper,we design the high voltage pulse generator and the precise positioningsystems,all the both based on C8051F310MCU.The application of the sound andelectromagnetic sensors makes this method of the cable fault location feasible. Itdiscusses the overall design principles and processes high-voltage of the pulsegenerator;.It describes the synchronization principle of the sound and the magneticsignals,the block diagram and overall design concept of the cable fault precisepositioning, and the design principles of each part of the hardware circuit module.Itachieves a flow chart and writes the entire software program. The experiment verificatsthe feasibility of this approach for locating faults.
