At present, IEC61850is the latest national standard about communication networkand system in the substations. IEC61850standard will extend further in the future. Itincludes relay protection, automation, power quality, high technology conditionmonitoring in the substations, and will be extended to all areas, such as wind power,hydropower, electric vehicles, distribution automation, energy storage batteries.Theresearch status of the IEC61850communication protocols, the module ofcommunication based on IEC61850has been introduced with particular attention. Firstly,the paper describes the characteristics of IEC61850protocol architecture, object-orientedmodeling technology in theory, and studies deeply the mapping between the protocols,objects, and services of MMS and the IEC61850standard. Next,communication modulebased on IEC61850standard is designed and realized in the paper. The establishment ofembedded Linux development environment and cross-compiler environment isintroduced in detail. The U-boot start-up mode, start-up processes and migration processare described. As for the hardware system, this paper uses the ARM11DevelopmentBoard (S3C6410is the core of microprocessor), ARM11is as the core hardware circuitof IEC61850communication module.The paper also introduces the extended logiccontrollers, principles for system peripheral interface circuits and the design andimplementation of embedded Ethernet communication module. Last, the IEC61850communication module is applied to the circuit protection device. The hardwareconfiguration of communication model based on IEC61850, information Modeling, thereading and parse of IEC103, have been studied in detail. By IEDScout software, theinteroperability of the module based on IEC61850has been demodulated correctly, sothe device based on the traditional protocol supports IEC61850standard.
