Over30years of development, computer monitoring and control technology in hydropower plant has been widely used to improve the overall level of automation in hydropower plant and to provide reliable guarantee for realization of "no man on-duty"(fewer people on duty) operation and management in the plant. Hoverer, because computer monitoring and control system, hydrologic water transfer automation system, unit status monitoring system, relay protection, fault recorder, dam monitoring automation systems, metering, automatic devices and other secondary systems and primary equipment used for hydropower plant are supplied by different vendors, and uniform and standard communication interface and data specification among system is insufficient, it is required to develop various communication protocols in order to realize system interconnection. This lead to redundant interface among each system, low interoperability between different devices, and failure to achieve data exchange and share, thus severely weakening effectiveness of integrated application of the system. The IEC61850standard system is issued and implemented for information resource integration, sharing and interaction, satisfying demands for intelligent and advanced application, promoting technical progress of computer monitoring and control system and accelerating intelligentization development of the plant.IEC61850standard system and relevant technology are developed for substation automation system, and has been used successfully in intelligent substation applications. With application of IEC61850standard extending to hydropower, wind power and other fields, IEC61850standard and its technology has been the hotspot of power system research. Core of IEC61850standard is object-oriented information model and modeling techniques. Building computer monitoring and control system information model based on IEC61850standard is not only the key technology for building intelligent hydropower plant, but also one of the main technical difficulties. This research projects aims to build a hydropower plant monitoring and control system information model conforming to IEC61850standard by using research and analysis of IEC61850standard system and information modeling technology, to achieve IEC61850communication between monitoring system of the plant and intelligent integration platform, and to lay foundation for full research on key technology of intelligent control system of the plant.First, this paper presents current status of IEC61850standard and IEC61850standards research domestic and overseas, describes application of IEC61850standards in intelligent hydropower Plant, and shows development computer monitoring and control system of hydropower plant in our country in combination with outlining development of H9000computer monitoring system. Secondly, based on IEC61850standard theory and related technical analysis, modeling principles, and structure, data type and modeling process for modeling information model based on IEC61850standard are studied in this paper. Thirdly, monitoring system information mode of Baishan power plant which meet IEC61850standard are built in combination with the project of H9000computer monitoring and control system to access the Baishan Power Plant intelligent integration platform, and communication and application conditions of this model are described. Finally, research efforts are summarized, and application prospect of modeling technology to meet IEC61850standard are discussed in this paper.
