It is proposed in the report of the18thParty Congress to “construct ecologicalcivilization, and construct a beautiful China”. Construction of beautiful villages is anintegral part of the realization of a beautiful China. However, village renovation planningis one of core factors of construction of beautiful villages. At present, obviousachievements have been made in terms of Suzhou village renovation planning.According to the author’s experiences in planning of considerable projects, it has certainrestrictions for the classification method of traditional villages used to guide villagerenovation planning. It is essential to how to deal with relevant issues. The principalwriting objective of this paper is to propose optimizing strategies. At first, a discussion is made in this paper onto influential factors of construction ofbeautiful villages from the perspective of construction of beautiful villages throughrelevant theoretical researches and researches on related cases at home and abroad.Besides,“dominant” characteristics in genetics are used for reference, and introducedinto Suzhou village renovation planning. Moreover, the definition of “dominant”characteristic is derived as visually principal traits necessary for summarizing beautifulvillages through the analysis on current conditions of these villages and the upperplanning research on these villages. Furthermore, these traits have certain significance inthe process of village renovation, and they can give full expression to village industries, cultural customs, topographic texture, and ecological&environmental featuresnecessary for construction of beautiful villages.“Recessive” characteristics refer tospecific elements of these villages at present. With village development and changes insome opportunities and surroundings,“recessive” characteristics may translate into“dominant” elements. Main objects of research in this paper are “dominant”characteristics of Suzhou villages. Then, the system analysis method is used to classify “dominant” characteristics ofpresent Suzhou villages in the future development. Based on development needs andinfluential factors of beautiful villages,“dominant” characteristics are classified into two“dominant” characteristic categories:“generality” and “individuality”.“Generality”characteristics include macroscopic and microcosmic aspects. Macroscopic generalitycharacteristics refer to common characteristics of all villages, and they are hardwareconditions and basic elements for development of all villages; while microcosmic generality characteristics mainly refer to local element features in each village.“Individuality” dominant characteristics refer to unique features necessary fordevelopment of different villages.“Generality” dominant characteristics arepreconditions for sound development of villages; while the existence of “individuality”dominant characteristics results in diversified development patterns of villages.“At last, a village integrated characteristic model is established to normalize therenovation planning mode of each characteristic. In the integrated planning, dominantcharacteristics conforming to relevant conditions in sample villages selected arecombined together; the same renovation planning modes are merged; and different onesare overlapped. By combining construction elements of beautiful villages, supportinginfrastructure construction, and other “generality” needs for villages, an integratedrenovation planning pattern applicable to respective villages is summarized in this paper. The author wrote this paper with expectations to provide solutions to Suzhou villagerenovation planning through a new comprehensive village renovation planning thoughtand to give certain reference to construction of beautiful villages in Suzhou.
