Double skin facade glass curtain wall is made up of two layers of glass,in theindustry is also called double skin.(double skin facade referred to as DSF). Doubleskin facade buildings in winter have very good heat preservation effect and have verygood ventilation effect in summer. Structural forms of double skin fa ade was foundin Europe in the early1970s, its purpose is to solve the glass curtain wall buildings inthe summer overheating, high–rise ventilation control and other issues. Single-layerglass curtain wall constructions are existing widely nowadays, the energyconsumption of building of the single-layer glass curtain wall is much higher than thegeneral construction. Through the analysis of energy consumption and thermalperformance, it can be seen that the double breath glass curtain wall has greatadvantages on this aspect. But different width of air interlayers and different supportforms, different materials of glass, as well as different shading system and thedifferent layers distance and the different structure way are have a large impact onenergy saving effect of the double skin fa ade.Double skin facade can ensure high incidence rate in light conditions, doubleskin facade can reduce building energy consumption of air conditioning to a greatextent, improve the building comfort level and building aesthetics. Instead of ordinaryouter wall configuration, a new type of double skin fa ade has an adjustable shadingdevices. In this paper, the new type of double breathing type glass curtain wall with anadjustable outer shade is suggested and discussed.Characteristic comparison work by Fluent and other relevant softwares includeslight gain and distribution characteristics,temperature distribution and air velocitydistribution characteristics,even the thermal load and HVAC systematic energyconsumption characteristics of the room have been also accomplished and presented.Base on our research work,the advantages of the built environmental characteristicsof the double breathing type glass curtain wall with an adjustable outer shade can bewell obtained and demonstrated. Further, research on regional adaptation has been alsodone by selecting four different meteorological regions in China from north to south(Harbin,Beijing,Shanghai and Guangzhou). (The impact of double breathing type glass curtain wall on ventilationperformance with different intervals of air interlayers, different curtain wallmaterials,different shading system have also been accomplished and presented byusing Fluent,AirPak and other relevant softwares.) Furthe,select double breathingtype glass curtain wall form different areas to study these differences the abovementioned on the ventilation performance of double breathing type glass curtain wall.Further, research on regional adaptation (of the selected double breathing typeglass curtain wall) has been also done by selecting four different meteorologicalregions in China from north to south (Harbin, Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou).
