The human civilization was originated from the rich water areas, and watertransportation has a long history, and ships are constantly developing for large-scaleand upscale ones. With the improvement of our living standard, domestic coastalscenery, island spots as well as exotic scenic destinations are becoming the firstchoice. Since tourism wave are heating up, the size of the passengers’ carriage by seahas largely enhanced. There are numbers of passenger routes put into use at home andabroad, including Qiongzhou Strait, Zhoushan Islands, Hong Kong, Macao andTaiwan regions as well as Southeast Asian. Therefore, the losses and damages of lifeand property will be immeasurable, once the marine accident of a passenger shipoccurs. Viewing from shipwreck cases occurred last century, it is quite essential thatthe ship designers should spend more time and effort to ensure the safety of the ship. From the perspective of personnel evacuation, this thesis studies the efficiencyof the evacuation in the event of an emergency for different design schemes of apassenger ship. Then, the deck layout design of the ship is optimized based on thequantitative standard of the evacuation efficiency. In this thesis, it shows a detailed analysis of the particularity of this passengership and the complexity of the passenger minds. The ‘Field Floor’ model is builtbased on the cellular automata (CA) theory, and the simulated programs are coded via‘MATLAB2011’. This program has solved the problem of multi-exit-target in theevacuation missions successfully. With the usage of the evacuation model established in this paper, therelationships between the evacuation efficiency and the style, width of corridor aswell as the exit distribution are discussed in great detail. And though the result of thesimulation program, the corresponding cases of the evacuation time graphs are shown,in order to obtain the optimal arrangement schemes. In the meanwhile, for largepublic spaces, this paper also studied the influence of different initial plan ofpersonnel distribution in the evacuation process. In the whole running process of eachprogram, several pedestrian phenomena have been simulated quite well, such as congestion, residing and retracing. At the same time, these programs also show thereasons of the evacuation efficiency in each case. Finally, this thesis takes a600-seat passenger ship as the research object, whichverified the feasibility and effectiveness of this method. Some suggestions are madefor the layout optimization of the passenger ships, which will provide technicalsupports for the subsequent ship designers.
