With the rapid growth of economyin the Yangtze River Basin, domestic andforeign trade is growing fast, and so is the container cargo, which has raised greatchallenge to container transport capacity and transport efficiency. The development ofmodern modes of production has also made a higher demand to transport quantitiesand delivery times. What’s more, great attention is paid to environmental pollutionand energy conservation. To solve these above problems, containerizedtransportationbyintegratedbarge,Drop and Pull Transport, intermodal and CollaborativeDevelopment are becoming popularamong countries and enterprises.In this dissertation, Drop and Pull Transport is used in containerizedtransportation to reduce the links of loading and unloading. Integratedbarge, whichcan be reorganized easily, is used to increase the flexibility of waterwaytransportation. Through the integration of resources of different organization,resource utilization is to be improved and transportation cost is to be reduced. Tomake full use of the strengths of integratedbarge, Drop and Pull Transport and waterintermodal, a new intermodal transport, Drop and Pull Transport of Integratedbargeby water, is designed. This new mode can enhance the advantages of waterwaytransport, improve the contradictions of the Yangtze container growthand insufficientcapacity, and relieve pressure on road and rail transport.Firstly, this dissertationoverviews the related research and applications of thecontainerizedintegratedbarge, Drop and Pull Transport and water intermodal. YangtzeRiver shipping analyzed, it is concluded that this new mode has a theoretical valueand practical guidance value.Then, from the aspects of characteristics of Drop and Pull Transport ofIntegratedbarge by water and the transportation environment on Yangtze River,thisdissertation analyzes the applicability of this mode. Based on the analysis of existingmodes of transport on Yangtze River, three modes of operation," points service ","cycle service","network service" and three co-operation modes,“equity joint“,"framework agreement","virtual collaboration" are analyzed. And functions and processes of this new model are introduced.Next, the related problems of freight management, convergence, barge tra-nsportation and risks are analyzed and studied. A mathematical model of thisnew mode is established and Heuristic algorithm is introduced to solve this m-odel. Transportation solutions of Drop and Pull Transport of Integratedbarge bywater are obtained.By comparing the transportation costs of traditional transportation solutions andthe new transportation solutions, it is concluded that this new model can effectivelyreduce the number of ships needed, reduce the container handling links and berthingtimes. So using this new model, transport efficiency can be effectively improved andthe cost reduced.
