With the development of cranes, the competitive market makes higherrequirements for product design, manufacturing, sales and maintenance. How todesign a high quality product more quickly and efficiently is a big challenge to thewhole surface of the mechanical design industries. The traditional design often goesthrough a lot of revision and spends a lot of time and energy for the arm design ofcrane. To speed up the design and save the time, the paper makes a certain researchabout truss jib structure of portal crane and develops a parametric design andoptimization procedures with ANSYS and VB, which can effectively make theproblem solved. The following aspects were researched in this paper mainly:(1) Took the truss jib of commonly used port crane as the research project andestablished a mathematical model to calculate its force by the basic designparameters.The force was used to make a finite element analysis for the truss jibstructure.(2) Established a mathematical model to express the structural characteristics ofthe truss jib by parameters.Created a parametric program with APDL language ofANSYS to get parametric model of the truss jib and made a finite elementanalysis.Took the MQ1022for example to verify the feasibility and correctness ofthe parametric program.(3) Used ANSYS to optimize the truss jib structure with first-order optimizationmethod and made a finite element analysis for the result of the optimization.Made achecking and evaluation for the strength, stiffness and stability, to verify theeffectiveness, feasibility and correctness of the optimization.(4) Took the VB6.0as a platform to make a package of APDL program anddeveloped the parametric design and optimization system for truss jib structure ofpotal crane, which makes the design, calculation and optimization more efficient,intuitive and easy.Results of this study offered a high-speed and efficient means for modeling,calculating and optimization.
