The rapid development of China’s auto industry, brought a broad space fordevelopment of the domestic automotive panel die, China has become a veritable automold manufacturing country. Automotive panel forming process is very complex.Generally, it is consisting of blanking, drawing, trimming, flanging, shaping, punching,bending, bulging, cuts and other basic processes. Trimming process is one of the mainprocesses. The quality of trimming design directly affects the quality of the contours, alsoaffects the quality and stability of the flange part. The design method of trimming die hasbecome a key technology of manufacture for automotive panel die.In this paper, it analyzes the structure and features of automotive panel die, researchand summarizes the specific methods of mold design. The traditional method ofparametric design is completing the whole design process once, this method is complexand unstable. Author finds that the exploration and using of modular design has importanttheoretical and practical significance on the basis of parametric technology. It divided acomplex design process into a series of simple design steps. It can simplify the designprocess and improve the stability of the system, also improve the efficiency andstandardization of mold design.In this paper, based on the structural and functional characteristics of automotivepanel trimming die, it research the modular design of trimming die assembly-level andpart-level. And based on parametric design techniques, for different features of eachtrimming part, choose the best design method for different parts of the trimming die.According to the experience and requirements of company, the paper determines themodular design method for working parts of trimming die. Then with developing theprogram, it achieves the modular design system for trimming die of working parts.Thesystem has been applied to the enterprise, showing that the system can greatly shortenmold design cycle, and improve the quality.
