China is currently in the most rapid urbanization period, a huge amount ofconstruction projects consume a lot of building materials, while the demolition ofold buildings is one of the largest sources of municipal waste. In order to solve thecontradiction of building materials and construction waste resource, from thebeginning of the1970s, the world’s construction industry began to researchresource recycling of waste materials. Currently, the reaserch and practice ofrecycling waste materials both have achieved some success, but there are also alot of problems in the engineering practice of recycling waste materials, such asenergy consumption has been ignored. So we have to promote the direct use ofwaste materials in the construction project.Chinese traditional architecture is profound, the practice of direct reuse ofwaste materials is quite early, but did not attract enough attention to academics. Inorder to guide the re-use of waste materials design, this paper selected three typesof waste material recycling cases: industrial waste materials (crucible, cinder),construction waste materials (broken bricks, out brick into stone), natural wastematerials (grass Pema, clam). Using construction case study methods, in terms ofgeographical background, historical background, material properties, constructiontechnology, performance characteristics, typical architectural features, tocomprehensive analysis of the material characteristics and design method. Andadds new research perspective and first-hand research data for the study oftraditional building materials. Finally, the article analyzes the causes of the traditional waste materials beeneliminated, sums up three characteristics of the reuse of waste materials intraditional architectural: respected the physical characteristics of the material inthe design techniques of structure, focusing on the authenticity of the materialperformance, focusing on the creative of the process construction. design ideas ofregional characteristics (including materials, processes, functions indigenous),flexibility, cost-saving. To find suitable design techniques and ideas from relatedcases in traditional Chinese architecture for modern design.
