This paper briefly introduced the development and application ofsubstation automation as well as the structure and features of substationintegrated automation system. Study on the application of the FJNT2000substation automation system (including RTU) in ZhangZhou Fengyuan220kV substation is carried out by annalyzing the issues in networkcommunication and telecontrol system.Aiming at the situation that the automation system no longer satisfiedthe new operation mode on the part of software and hardware, this paperput forward three principles, namely networked signal, high reliabilitysystem and independent protection management, to transform theautomation system.After study on the advantages of RCS-9700substationautomation system,a new Fengyuan substation automation system isdesigned and reconstructed,and IEC60870-5series protocol isintroduced as well.Its monitoring subsystem, remote control subsystem,IEC60870-5protocol, fault information subsystem, and GPS far to thetime subsystem are studied while the application of the IEC60870-5-103protocol in the monitoring system is mainly researched. To discuss thedata communication under the protocol IEC60870-5-103, with analyzinga network datagram passage. And its operational results in monitor andcontrol system are produced.The new substation automation system uses industrial cable/opticalethernet structure and communication protocol IEC60870-5-103/104.Transmitting all real-time signals, data and control commands by widebroadband networking is realized, which establishes the foundation forthe new operation mode. Its open hardware interface and standardcommunication protocols are beneficial to modularization as well asreliability. It is also easier for system expansion and maintenance.Someissues of new Fengyuan substation automation system are presented andsolved, such as transformation of communication protocol, timingdeviation, some remote signals not accurate.Digital Substations applying optical transducer and protocol IEC61850are the development trends.The briefly scheme of fengyuan substationdigitization reconstruction is put foreward.
