Substation automation system is one with computer technology, communication technology and developed substation intelligent technological sciences. Currently, the substation automation system in China has been widely used in the power system, our new substations are automated. Substation automation system as a multi-disciplinary collaboration product that relates to the grid secondary equipment, and scheduling automation and other aspects. Because of remote substation automation system selection, design and use of other reasons, there are some in the application pending issues, affecting the substation automation system application results. IEC61850substation automation system is defined as:substation automation system is provided in the substation, including communications infrastructure, including automation. Substation automation system function is to control, monitor, protect the substation equipment and lines, namely, the achievement system configuration, communication management, and software management.With IEC61850, digital substation, intelligent substation, substation automation at home and abroad in a wide range of applications, the manufacturers comply with IEC61850standard IED devices have also introduced, including MU, intelligent terminals, spacer layer protection, monitoring and control and so on. But the old system can not directly update to the new systems, there must be a transitional period of coexistence, and substation communication between the master station is also a period of time will still continue to use the currently used non-IEC61850protocol. Therefore, the station is responsible for data collection, processing and forwarding scheduling master work still needs to be done by the communication manager. Meanwhile communication manager is also responsible for the traditional standard IEC61850substation to meet a new generation substation transitional tasks.This thesis applies a conventional substation communication management device and smart substations. The device provides full support for IEC61850, and supports IEC60870, modbus and other communication protocols, and increase other communication protocols as needed, can be configured for different projects, real-time monitoring operation of the entire system. In this paper, the device software design, database design and mapping protocol stack design has been studied, and has been validated in practical engineering applications.
