In recent years, power cable is widely applied with the rapiddevelopment of power infrastructure in urban areas. Oscillating wave testsystem (OWTS) is a kind of technology to detect and locate partialdischarge (PD), which can find the insulation defects of the power cableto prevent potential accidents.In this paper, oscillating wave partial discharge test system modelwas designed by use of Matlab/Simulink simulation platform. Accordingto the physical model of partial discharge in void, the measure process ofpartial discharge on oscillating wave was stimulated. At the same time,PD pulse apparent discharge was got through the discharge correctionprocess. Parameters and characteristics of detect impedance wereanalyzed. Oscillating voltage and alternating voltage were proved to havethe same partial discharge behavior.In this work, portable simulation modules such as frequencycalculation module and data interface module and series of subsystemmodel of oscillating wave test system were designed. The simulationresults matched expectations. The tan of power cable dielectric loss canbe achieved precisely through the virtual testing platform. All virtual testresults can be easily saved as MAT files, TXT files and other common fileformats. Physical tests can be replaced by this test system to speed up thedevelopment progress, reduce production costs and simplify the testprocess.The feature-rich virtual test platform of OWTS can be used in thedetailed in-depth research in partial discharge of power cable in thevirtualization environment.The model building idea proposed in thisarticle has great inspiration on building an impact partial dischargesoftware test platform in the near future.
