The safe and steady operation of electric power system, which is very important for thenational economics and the safety of people’s life and possession. The excitation control ofgenerator is the efficient measure of enhancing the electrical power system stability andimproving the distribution network reliability. It is the important guarantee of reliableoperation of electric power system. The control effect of excitation is directly related to thesafe operation of the power system. So in this paper, a way which applies the predictivecontrol theory to the generator control is proposed to improve the effect of excitation controland to enhance the safety and stability of electric power system. The paper introduces the development and actuality of the generator excitation controland predictive control at first, then researches on the theory of the generator excitation controland predictive control deeply, and applies the predictive control theory to the single-machineinfinite bus system and the multi-machine power system. Based on the single-machineinfinite bus system, the nonlinear predictive control which uses the Taylor progression as theoutput prediction is introduced. And based on the fifth-order typical generator mathematicalmodel, the paper brings forward a predictive control law with Taylor progression. In order toexpand the useful range of existing information and improve predictive precision, this paperstudies and deduces a multi-step predictive control law, the PECE nonlinear predictivecontrol law. Using the MATLAB/Simulink, the paper sets up the simulation model ofsingle-machine infinite bus system with excitation control, and then uses this two controllaws to make simulation and comparison. For the multi-machine power system, using the third-order typical generator model, thepaper applies the Taylor progression and Adams predictive method on the multi-machinepower system, and then studies and deduces the predictive excitation control laws. Using theMATLAB/Simulink, the paper sets up the simulation model of Anderson system withexcitation control, and then uses this two control laws to make simulation and comparisonand verify the control effect of each control law.
