Based on the problems and challenges of Shanghai World Expo2010publicspace (A,B,C area,Pudong) for example, this paper focuses on the public space designstrategies of Shanghai World Expo2010, then discusses in depth from two levels andfour systems,the two levels are the whole and parts strategies level,four systems aresquare system, green land system,lighting system and user-friendly facilites system.The public space design of Shanghai World Expo2010is comprehensive and alittle bit complex,the physical plan and spatial pattern are different from the usualurban open space. To achieve this goal,first of all, principal contradiction need to bestraightened.The principal contradiction is that under condition of limited time andspace, a large number of facilities need to be put in place,and people flow need to bereasonably and efficiently organizated, the people’s visiting habit need to be changedfrom passive waiting in open space to active “waiting”,“visiting”,“touring” and“interacting”.Based on this analysis, some methods are used,including experiencedata,data model,and on-site feedback,the research issues are explored deeply by.leveled and branched,including the macro,meso and micro level. The macro-leveloverall strategies include overall layout and design strategies,the meso-level itemizeddesign strategies, the subsystem includes square system,green space system andlighting system. The micro-level user-friendly facilites design strategies and micro-Operations Management,the user-friendly facilities include sunshading system,mistspraying system,benches facilities system,drinking water facilities system and otherrelated facilitiesThe design strategies of public space Shanghai world Expo is an positive andmeaningful integrated project research of urban open space,to combine the emotionaldesign art exploration and rational humane practice and also withstood the184dayssevere test and achieved complete success. It will offer some positive references togrowing urban open space design under large city events.
