Hanan centralized control center realized the task of equipment operation andpower grid monitoring for13500kV transformer substations in HeilongjiangProvince.It is very important in the northeast power grid. To solve the problem thatthe fault recorders based on single terminal fault location method were affected bytransition resistance and operation mode of the system, and the single terminal faultlocation method was of low accuracy,we gave the double terminal fault locationmethod based on protection substation in this paper.First,we introduced the overall design of the system which is for extra highvoltage power grid protection and fault information in Hanan centralized controlcenter. We described the hardware and software of the system in detail. We gave thetopology structure of the system. We gave the concrete realization process for thefunctional modules of the system.Secondly, we studied the method of double terminal fault location based onprotection substation. We thought the main advantages of the proposed method isthat it can make use of protection substation installed the GPS synchronizationclock transmission fault on both sides of the extra high voltage transmission linesubstation fault recorder current, which is collected by the voltage data accuratefault distance calculation. The distance measurement method was batter than thesingle terminal fault location method because it was not affected by the operationmode of the system and the transition resistance. We used ATP-EMTP to simulatethe fault and we analyzed and discussed the simulation results.Finally, we conducted the program editor by LABWindows/CVI virtualinstrument program design language. We developed the program of double terminalfault location based on protection substation. we proved the feasibility and accuracyof the double terminal fault location method which based on protection substationby true fault in500kV extra high voltage transmission line.The double terminal fault location method based on protection substationwhich proposed in this paper, solved the problem in the State Grid "big operation"management mode that the protection substation in Hanan centralized controlcenter can call the fault report mechanically,the efficiency of fault informationtransfer is low and the process is cumbersome. The method can meet therequirements of extra high voltage power grid centralized control center on the faultlocation accuracy. It has the further promotion and application value.
