Tower crane is one of the most important construction machinery on the constructionproject. With developing of the construction industry, the safety requirements of projects inthe use of tower crane is also rising in order to ensure the safety of people.In this thesis, finite element model of the boom and body of the tower crane is basedon ANSYS. Statics and modal analysis of the finite element model of tower crane arediscussed. Finally, the size of the components of the tower crane is optimized. The resultsof research are great important to the check of stiffness and strength and structuraloptimization of tower crane. The following works is given:(1) The finite element model of the boom and body of the tower crane is based onANSYS. The statics analysis of finite element model is discussed in variety of conditionsand Stiffness is checked with design specifications of tower crane.(2) Modal analysis of the finite element model of boom of tower crane, The results ofthe Natural frequencies and vibration mode of boom is obtained in order to avoid structuralresonance(3) The size of the components of the boom is optimized based on ANSYS. In therequirements of guarantee under the stiffness and strength, the boom effectively reduces thestructural weight in order to be safety and reduce the cost.
