BRT systems are an effective solution to solve the problem of urban trafficcongestion. There are many features on the BRT systems, such as short constructionperiod, construction costs are relatively inexpensive, fast and large volume. But BRTsystems typically need to build in the core area of the city, this will lead to excessiveconcentration of the routes. In this situation, it will result to a long queue of the bus atthe bus station which will slow down the running speed of the system. Therefore, thestudies of the capacity of the BRT bus routes are very important.First of all, this paper analyzes the development status and theoretical results of theBRT system in order to summarize and generalize the characteristics of BRT station. Inthe other hand, introduce the traffic flow theory and queuing theory. Secondly, thispaper analysis the process of the BRT bus pitting to the station, and examine thedistribution fitting of the BRT bus’s arrival time and the residence time to verify thelaws of BRT bus arrives obedience Poisson distribution, the residence time obedienceIreland Lang distribution. On the basis, established the model of tandem queuing systemand then come out the capacity of the BRT bus station routes formula. Thirdly, the paperuse the model of capacity of the routes which has been built to optimize the capacity inparking space, bus frequency on the grid, spacing of the station and the service level ofthe station. Finally, the paper use Guangzhou BRT system’s Shipaiqiao Station as anexample. Through field research data and based on the model has been made, figure outthe capacity of the routes of the Shipaiqiao station and make optimization in order topropose reasonable proposal. This paper applies to BRT station routes capacity by tandem queuing system, trying to propose a new way of thinking in this area, aiming to provide a reference forthe construction of the BRT system and decision making by the government to furtherpromote the construction of BRT system in order to solve urban traffic congestionincreasingly serious problem, and promote the harmonious development of society.
