Research On The Space Design Of Urban Street In Suzhou

Street is somewhere people will pass through in everyday life. Cities’vitality are largely depended on whether the street could meet public demands. The public’s needs are not only traffic purpose, but also activities and social function. A large quantity of street just meet the need of transportation and neglect the activities and social function. Thus, this thesis hope that through the traditional methods based on empirical studies of street space analysis the correspondence of space, time and people. And then, the thesis put up with some strategies and suggestions to create vigorous street.Firstly, the thesis classify the street, making it into two categories:street and road and mainly have a research on street. Through field surveys and the preference survey of street users in Suzhou Industrial Park and the old city of Suzhou, the dissertation summed up the status quo and the exist problems of street in Suzhou, and select the representative street Guanqian street and Changle street as an example in Suzhou Industrial Park and the old city of Suzhou. Though behavioral survey analysis the correspondence of the citizen’s way of travel, type of activities, time of travel and spot of activities and the reason causes the problems.After that, the thesis combine with behavioral analysis coming up with five strategies including management due to various period, creating a composite function, enhancing the spatial relations, optimizing space node and public participation to deal with the problems the Suzhou Industrial Park facing. At the same time, on the basis of analysis the thesis also put up with four strategies for the old city including management due to different time and period, increase creative of street, enhance the comfort of street space details, and with the help of the city renewal opportunity to optimize of street space. Thus, formation complete work method of the process from the most basic survey, behavioral survey to solve the street problems and put up with strategies. Practice the planning process from "survey-Analysis-Planning"Although the chosen street has a certain particularities, such as different geographic location, different regional development patterns, but different streets have similarities. And the core function of street is for human. Thus, through the summarize of Suzhou Industrial Park, the ancient city street space, trying to come up with a strategy to create vibrant street space, including macroeconomic factors promoting vibrant street strategies, facility level strategies to enhance the vitality of the street, design level of creation of street vitality strategies and strategies in management level to support vigorous street and then to achieve a more vibrant public life.Finally, the dissertation reviewed and summarized the questions of Suzhou Industrial Park and the old city of Suzhou.
