Magnetic liquid is also called the magnetic fluid. It is the only liquid magneticmaterial with commercial use value currently, the magnetic liquid both has the liquidity ofliquid and magnetic properties of solid materials. There is a theory that we call secondorder buoyancy principle, it means when the permanent magnet is immersed in magneticfluid, besides the function of the buoyancy that the magnetic fluid as the general fluidproduces, the permanent magnet is also affected by the magnetic pressure. The magneticpressure makes the permanent magnet self-levitation in magnetic fluid. The experimentalresearch was done based on the special properties that magnetic fluid has.In this paper, the density, viscosity, saturation, magnetization of the magnetic fluid wasmeasured and the rule of the viscosity of magnetic fluid in magnetic field was summed up.The principle of magnetic fluid damping technology was analyzed. The compoundpendulum and suspension dynamic devices were designed to finish the single degree offreedom experiment respectively from horizontal and vertical direction. The damping effectof magnetic fluid damper in different frequency was studied. The damping effect ofdifferent permanent magnet in nonmagnetic enclosure and using different kinds of magneticfluid was studied.
