Container crane is built for container transport as a special handling machinery. Container crane cannot be pre-assembled in the plant, but only in the placement site for assembly, due to its heavy and bulky body. The assembly environments is very complex, in addition to the assembly sequence and other issues involved in traditional mechanical equipment, there are other problems that the placement of pending installation component in the field placement will lead to congestion. On the other hand, the placement of the installation of components and large installation tools (such as portal crane) also affect the efficiency of the installation of container cranes, and even affect the smooth installation of container cranes. To solve this problem, drawing and optimization of the model is discussed at first. Then, the method about how to make and load the dynamic model in the virtual assembly simulation system is provide. Next, the site layout of component and the configuration of assembly sequence is described, and the key interactive technology and evaluation output of the system are explored. Finally, a virtual assembly simulation prototype system is developed to verify the studies mentioned in the previous. Specific research of the paper are as follows:(1) It’s analyzed that the model’s characteristics of virtual assembly system, compared with the features of model in the 3D animation in the paper. The drawing of the tool model and the product model is studied. In order to meet the requirements of virtual assembly system, the 3D models are optimized in terms of features of structure and hierarchical structure. Based on the model of the skeleton binding way the dynamic model of skeletal animation is drawn, and the way that the 3D engine loads the skeletal animation are described.(2) The venue layout and the disposition of the assembly sequence in virtual assembly system are studied in the paper. Firstly, the two-dimensional plane layout is compared with the 3D scene layout, and the implement of a 2D layout is presented. Then, the method of the 2D layout mapping to the 3D scene and its implementation process are described. Finally, the configuration of assembly sequence and the process of the configuration and data processing are described in detail.(3) The key technology for interactive and simulation in the virtual assembly system are studied. In order to facilitate the Human-Computer Interaction of the system, the method of the mouse picking is achieved and introduced in detail. The necessity of the interference detection is analyzed, realizing the interference detection in XNA is achieved, and the process is discussed in detail. The process of path planning method in system assembly is put forward. The key point of picking up and the realization of the interpolation methods of place are described in detail. Finally, the evaluation target and evaluation method of the scheme are described.(4) The virtual assembly simulation system for port crane has been designed and developed. The overall framework of prototype system are introduced and the main functional modules, the system each function module of the interface are described.
