Assembly designing plays an important role in the whole process of the product designing. It takes great effect on the cost, quality and market of the production. Virtual assembling technology considered the ability, time, cost, sequence and route at the very beginning. Therefore, this technology can shorten the developing circle of production and raise the benefit of the corporation. Based on SolidWorks, this dissertation analyzed the structure, method and the key techniques of virtual assembly, and did research on the key techniques of virtual assembly in the assembly designing procedure of overhead cranes. In addition, with the theory of assembly designing, a system which can plan the sequence and examine the inference of assembling is completed.The main research results summarized as below:(1)The importance of virtual assembly in the field of manufacturing and the status of virtual assembly in foreign and domestic areas is analyzed, and the developments of assembling sequence planning are introduced particularly.(2)With the freedom and restraint condition which depends on the feature matrix of assembly, assemble and disassemble sequence is decided.(3)The assembling sequence planning method based on the knowledge can reduce the algorithm complex.(4)The reference examine method of assembly models is studied.(5)With the theory of assembly designing, a system which can plan the sequence and examine the inference of assembling is completed.
