With the development of economy, valves have been widely used in all areas of national production and life as pressure piping components. However, it still exists some obvious shortages such as large volume, high production costs, difficult maintenance, failure damage et al. Therefore, it proposes higher demands for design and production, which makes it significant to perform performance research and structural optimization. The development of finite element technique compensates the shortage of traditional design methods in accuracy and efficiency, and has a positive effect on improving the quality of large valve design.DN1800 tri-eccentric butterfly valve was studied. Structural static analysis of overall object composed by disc, stem and seals was conducted by ANSYS Workbench software in simplified model, mesh and boundary condition, so that to obtain reasonable finite element analysis project. Accurate analysis of valve stress condition and dangerous position was achieved according to disc stress and strain distribution, and structural improvement program was proposed, while the thickness of the disc and rib, the rib distribution were reasonably determined. Then, CFD simulations of valves under different opening degrees were conducted by Workbench Fluent to get fluid flow distributions, flow coefficient and flow resistance coefficient, which provided a method for flow characteristic values calculating. Finally, comparative analysis was done by changing three eccentric values, and the relationships between eccentric values and its flow characteristics were obtained. Orthogonal optimization method was used to optimize the three eccentric values. Excellent valve flow characteristics were achieved. To solve the problem of poor accuracy and efficiency of valve design, the simulations of static structure belonging to valve key components and internal flow field characteristics were performed by finite element technique. This research provides a perfect design and analysis programs for valves design and optimization.
