Cultural and creative industries plays an important role in the development and competition among various cities in recent years. Shunyi, where International Airport located, has become the key node of the development of Eastern Beijing. Cultural and creative industries has been a leading industry in the future, which also has a tremendous impact on urban space. Based on this background, this paper studies characteristics of cultural and creative industries space in Shunyi, and proposes optimization strategies for that.First, the paper generalizes domestic and foreign definitions and characteristics about cultural and creative industries. Based on related documents carried out by Beijing municipal government, the categories of cultural and creative industries discussed in this paper is defined. Then the existing studies on cultural and creative industries organization, industry cluster and spatial concentration, and formation mechanism of creative city are reviewed, and case studies on London, Berlin and Shanghai, focusing on creative industries space, are conducted. The paper, therefore, presents the idea that the spatial distribution of cultural and creative industries is resulted from the interaction between internal motive forces and spatial resources endowments.Then a review on space development and characteristics of Shunyi and a study on present spatial distribution of cultural and creative industries are followed. It shows the present spatial distribution of cultural and creative industries is disorganized and confused, since the resources endowments are not fully utilized, which do not match its location advantages. Subsequently, the paper analyzes external impetus, internal motive forces and creative class demand for space, thereby clarifying the facility and environment resources, Manufacturing industries transformation and leisure consumption demand are the motive forces of cultural and creative industries space development, which are also the expanding directions of cultural and creative industries space.On the basis of that analysis, the paper finally concludes some optimization strategies on Shunyi Cultural and Creative Industries Space, from three aspects, which are general arrangement, key spatial distribution and sustaining spatial system. The paper also briefly suggests the adjusting direction and further research direction. It hopes to make spatial preparation for cultural and creative industries, cultivate spatial concentration for cultural and creative industries cluster and provide guidance for spatial development and management, which may also benefit future optimization of cultural and creative industries space for other cities and districts.
