Along with urbanization in China, ecological problems in city was highlighted, especially lack of water rescoursce and pullution of water environment. Aiming at relieving seriousness of the situation, government set demand of construction of sponge city in 2014. The essence of sponge city is that, under the concept of Low Impact Design, to aggregate the city’s water system, including rivers, lakes and underground water system, to form a uniform system in order to regulate the pollution and to remediate the water environment.The sponge city theory under study within this paper suggests that the greenbelt within sponge city construction works together with the water system of the city itself to control the rainwater, therefor, after studying the concept, theory, target and content of the LID(Low Impact Design), this paper proposes the design concept of rain garten, after the land is planned. It also proposes a simulated landscape to be an example, step by step introduces the landscape design method under the concept of LID. Furthermore, through the comparison with traditional rain garten, it also summarizes the characteristics of the new rain garten, concerning its practical design experience and design principals. The whole paper shows the applicability of the above-mentioned theory with the practical example from domestic and abroad.
