| For a long time, the cultural characteristics of the city is taken as an important resource for urban development by the attention. However, the characteristics of culture is inseparable from the urban space as a carrier, distinctive space is formed in a particular environment, this is actually a process of cultural interactions with environment. Cultural ecology study the process of social adaptation to its environmental, investigated the core of the ecological factors by the natural environment and to study the humanities and social environment. Therefore, the use of cultural ecology can explore specific cultural patterns and explain regional differences and roots of cultural characteristics.Hakka culture is a unique form of local culture in the Chinese historical changes. Applying cultural ecology theory to study the living culture of Hakka can explore the environmental adaptability of their living patterns in-depth analysis on the basis of environmental factors. The application of The cultural ecology to research on Hakka culture can be conducted from four levels of people, the environment, culture and inhabited space for research. People is the core of the cultural ecosystem, because people realize their own survival and development through subjective dynamic adaptation and transformation of the environment, generating culture in the process of response to the environment. Natural and social environment of human settlements which constitute the external environment of space, is the basis for the formation and development of culture. Culture of human settlements within the space, forms cultural ecological systems through the long-term effects between culture and environment, including the organization of the relationship between social groups, technical standards and cultural ideas, which is the core of the cultural ecology. Finally, culture is reflected in human settlements inner and outer space and interact with the space to evolve. This paper studies the Hakka living culture from the four levels of cultural ecology. Introduction section introduces research purposes, the main content and theoretical structure of the paper. The second chapter analyzes the research status of cultural ecology and Hakka culture, while cultural ecology application in the field of Hakka culture research were reviewed and summarized. The third chapter analyzes the comprehensive regional environment of the distribution of Hakka and research information on Hakka people. On this basis, this part develops profound analysis of Hakka migration process, the influence of their surrounding environment and evolution of social structure. The fourth chapter studies the ecosystem effects of Hakka culture in their living patterns. Based on this, interprets analytical evolution of living space form, and try to have a depth understanding of the cultural significance of the living space. The fifth chapter analyzes the evolution of urban space under the impact of various environmental factors, spatial characteristics and cultural connotations. In sixth chapter, pointed out issues in Hakka cultural preservation and dilemmas the old city is facing. Then put forward corresponding solution ideas and protection strategies for different situations.
