Image And Spirit: The Landscape Design Research And Practice Of Buddhist Statues

Buddhism originated in India and was introduced to China in fifth century. Buddhism has through and developed new special language system during more than 2000 years’ integration.Although ancient sculpture sculpture has experienced twists and turns from Wei dynasty to Song dynasty, it appeared a new trend and made progress at each dynasty. The achievement of Yuan,Ming and Qing dynasty is far less Sui and Tang dynasty. Chinese Buddhist culture presented prosperous after the Republic of China and wars before 90’s. The event of building of Grand Buddha(88 meters high) at Mountain Ling in Wuxi in 1997 drew great attention so that large numbers of temple and Buddha sculpture was built from then on at domestic. This is the main reason for this paper’s researching on ancient and modern Buddha sculpture landscape.Concluding the theory and using it into practice, taking Shakyamuni landscape design of Shao ling scenic spot in Quanzhou as example.This thesis mainly divided into five parts: the first part is the introduction,it’s an overview of the research of background, research purpose, significance and research methods and ways,content and so on;The second part mainly through the research and analysis of ancient Buddhist statues, cave temples and contemporary large park design,summarizes their advantages and disadvantages, arrange them to come to the conclusion and the instruction significance,eventually used in the design of the practice of the "Buddha Buddha ceremony square of Quanzhou". The third part mainly through reading related theory and research data, as well as the typical case of the modern Buddhist culture landscape, summarized the design thought and culture, use it advantages to this practice in the design process. The fourth part is through the research experience of the first and second part, the anatomy of the "Buddha Buddha ceremony square" of the specific design process, design thinking and design concept. The fifth part is this topic research the overall summary and overview of the result and experience,through the transformation and innovation of ancient art specifications, to re-explain the modern Buddhist landscape image and spirit.The innovation point aimed at combining the artistic conception of ancient stone cave temple and modern landscape constructing together, that is combining ancient and modern design elements together and using the idea in design.
